Subject: Logging on Mt. Ninham

Dear Mr. Wiegert,

It has recently come to my attention that Mt. Ninham is targeted for the installation of a model Forest Program. I live on Gipsy Trail Road directly adjacent to where the logging road will be established. For years my family and I have enjoyed the bucolic quite beauty of the area. We have put a considerable amount of time and money into our home in this area because of its ideal location to beautiful state park land. We frequent Mt. Ninham as we are an active family that mountain bikes, hikes and horseback rides in the area on a regular basis. Several times weekly various members of my family will travel the stretch of Gipsy trail road between Rt 301 and Farmers Mill road on bicycles or Jogging.

The idea of the amount of logging, the methods of logging, the loud, dangerous and polluting truck traffic, and the destruction of a very beautiful forest that is near and dear to our family and our neighbors is devastating.

I beg you to reconsider this project. Beautiful, undeveloped land close to the largest and greatest city in the world is precious and should be preserved at all costs. My words speak for so many who know and use this land and hopefully speak for those that will be able to improve the quality of their lives by using it in the future. Is there no other place, less populated in New York state that the project will impact less people? Putnam county seems out of control with development. As it's density increases this resource will be come very, very valuable.

I am taken aback that the proposal has gone so far without any word to the public. I would like to request a copy of the Proposed Amendment so that I can be completely informed. I would also like to be completely informed of the progress of the project as well as any future meetings devoted to the Ninham interests.

Please discontinue this project in this area. Thank you for your time and consideration to this matter that impacts our lives so greatly.

Respectfully,

AM

"Certainly, one option should always be, what happens if we just let it alone and let it resort to its fully natural state? A forest left alone and allowed over time to become something approximating what was here before settlement is the best of all possible worlds." - Bob Irwin, Conservation Director, World Wildlife Fund
