Dear Governor Pataki,

As a resident and homeowner of Kent,NY, I am adamantly opposed to the DEC plan to create a model forest on the Ninham Mountain Multiple Use Area.

It would take a high purpose to justify logging such a precious place as Ninham Mountain. The DEC plan to create a fourth model forest does not rise to this. Having such a special forest so close means that my family can enjoy nature and get exercise on a regular basis. Being in the forest is recreational and rejuvenating in the truest sense. Logging Ninham would destroy its beauty and remove its power to rejuvenate. I hope to raise my son to appreciate and respect nature. In a time of deficits and budget crunching, a fourth model forest is unnecessary. Government should beshrinking not expanding into questionable practices such as logging. Ninham Mountain is for recreation. If the Department of Environmental Conservation logs Ninham they will appear to me to be a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Sincerely,

CM

"Certainly, one option should always be, what happens if we just let it alone and let it resort to its fully natural state? A forest left alone and allowed over time to become something approximating what was here before settlement is the best of all possible worlds." - Bob Irwin, Conservation Director, World Wildlife Fund
