Kent's 'panhandle'
Folks,
Western Kent has a panhandle, a chunk taken out of Philipstown
at some point in the past that encompasses the area known as
Hortowntown.
Early maps show Philipstown being more recatngularish from when
it was divvied up among the Philipse Family. The 1892 USGS map
shows the current westernmost line of Kent, the line that runs
along the Philisptown Pike (Route 301) AND the *old* town line
as well. That line is missing from the 1941 map which has the
current town lines in position.
Questions:
1) When
did Kent acquire Hortowntown and,
2) Why?

No, I don't know the answers! |
