HOW DOES A CHICKEN CROSS A FOUR LANE ROAD? ©John Cohen April 2009 A country road in a town remote Has a highway plan rammed down its throat Straighter, wider, faster too Flattened hills with an urban view What became of our scenic byway How can a chicken cross a speedy highway? A rural village in a town remote Has a four lane bridge crammed down its throat “It will keep you safer” the planners say While more cars pass through every day. It leaves us people with a heavy load How does a chicken cross a four lane road? How does a chicken cross a four lane road? Ask the supervisor, he ought to have knowed That the trucks were coming, no place for a horse - Even pedestrians can’t get across It leaves us people with a heavy load How does a chicken cross a four lane road? How does a chicken cross a four lane road? Don’t ask the public, they weren’t let in Professional consultants . . made the plan Without any input from the working man It leaves us people with a heavy load How does a chicken cross a four lane road? How does a chicken cross a four lane road? Just don’t ask the comprehensive plan They never were consulted , they have no blame Supervisor dissolved them, ain’t it a shame It leaves us people with a heavy load How does a chicken cross a four lane road? The planners don’t listen, the Town Board went along Supervisor wants the business, the county was wrong, Developers schemed, and they always ruled While the residents - are always fooled It leaves us people with a heavy load / Save our Peekskill Hollow Road ! © John Cohen, 2009
