CARMEL — The Putnam County Legislature chairman said he has no plans to publicly reprimand Legislator Anthony Fusco, R-Mahopac, for his behavior during recent traffic stops conducted by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, even though lawmakers have asked for such action.
“I cannot control a single legislator's behavior. Elected officials should know what they are elected to do and they should do it,” Chairman Vincent Tamagna, R-Philipstown, wrote in a letter this week to The Journal News.
The letter comes after Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith expressed concern last week about Fusco's twice approaching drivers who had been stopped by deputies.
Fusco spoke with the drivers at the Wood Street-Byrant Pond Road intersection near the Taconic State Parkway. It's the same intersection where Fusco was given a ticket in March 2008 after failing to stop at a stop sign — a ticket, he maintains, he wrongly received because of his investigation of overtime spending by the Sheriff's Office.
In an interview Wednesday, Tamagna said there's no benefit to voting to censure Fusco, who, he said, needs to change his behavior.
