I think the “Rally Car Racetrack” and “Patterson Crossing” are 2 very separate issues. The private racetrack brings nothing to the town but noise, polution, and liability. Do some research on rally car racing (look it up on YouTube), and notice how loud the exhaust of these cars is. That will be what replaces the quiet weekends we now have. These may be non streat legal race cars, trailered in from out of town, or streat legal cars that they “modify” in the on site garage they want to build, in order to race them. If the rally cars are set up right, they could be using that track at all hours, day or night, as these rally cars can be outfitted with pretty serious light bars. The ‘skid pad’ that is also to go along with the track is for doing burnouts and donuts, so you will enjoy the sound of screaching tires and the aroma of burning rubber. These cars tear up the terain that they are racing on, since it is all offroad, resulting in tremendous amounts of dust. This track has the potential impact residents and businesses within a few mile radius, so we are talking not only Patterson, but parts of Brewster and Put Lake. It will definately have imediate impact on erosion, and long term effects of polutants in the East branch water supply.
I cant see how anyone (accept those hoping to use it) could see this track as a good idea, let alone hold any value for the town. The first time someone is seriously injured or dies using this track, I’m sure they will try to come afer the town.
Patterson Crossing, whether its a good or bad idea, at least would create jobs and help lessen the money leaving the county and going to CT. I’m not necessarily for the Crossing, but it at least has potential possitive impact for the town. I would encourage people to look at these as 2 separate issues, independent from one another, as both are deserving of real attention, as their impact on this town, and the towns surrounding, could be enormous.
Don’t underestimate the impact that this track could have, and don’t let it skate through because you think that the Crossing is a bigger issue. It needs serious attention, and it needs to be stopped.
And I’d like to thank Dee for posting.
But I’d also like to take the opportunity to challenge those against the race track and who are using the *exact same language* in opposition to join the much larger community that is going to be negatively affected by the construction of Patterson Crossing. That there are people living over there near Route 22 who are against the racetrack and yet who support Patterson Crossing weakens every argument they make to stop their particular project.
Noise! Dust! Quality of Life!
That’s what we’re hearing from the anti-racetrack folks. It also happens to be the very same result – but twenty times over – from Patterson Crossing.
So again, this is a challenge to those who are against the racetrack to come out against Patterson Crossing.
