New Windsor family believes new health law will financially save them
NEW WINDSOR – If you ask Rebecca Castellanos of New Windsor, the recently approved federal healthcare bill is the best thing since sliced bread.
Rebecca and Jaime’s son, David, who is five, was born with spin bifida. Their seven-year-old daughter, Kayla, had a nasty bout with bronchitis. Mrs. Castellanos also had a serious medical issue not long ago.
While the mandatory coverage for pre-existing conditions doesn’t kick in right away for adults, it does for kids, notes Mrs. Castellanos.
“For children the pre-existing kicks in but in 2014, is when the pre-existing for adults is supposed to kick in,” she said.
There is another plus for the Castellanoses in particular, with their son’s condition, said Congressman John Hall.
“No longer will insurance companies be able to cap your lifetime benefits or your annual benefits.”
Hall said for a family of four like the Castellanoses, they will realize an average savings in health costs of $7,600.
