Leibell sentence postponed for second time
Leibell: sentencing
postponed
WHITE PLAINS – The sentencing of former State Senator Vincent Leibell has been postponed for a second time, until Friday, May 13.
Leibell is expected to receive 1 ½ to two years in federal prison on his guilty plea to charges of obstructing justice and tax evasion.
Leibell, who had won election as Putnam County executive last fall but never took office, admitted in federal court that he tried to influence a grand jury that was investigating corruption in Putnam. He also admitted to filing false income tax returns, failing to report $43,000 in income from 2003 to 2006.
The former senator had earmarked funds from state member items while he was a senator for a not-for-profit organization which he supposedly created to develop senior housing.
