Last week I wrote about how Congresswoman Nan Hayworth took the side of corporate America when faced with the question of what she would do about major corporations that paid no income taxes. It seems that companies like GE, who earned $14.2 billion last year with $5.1 billion of that coming from US earnings, paid $0 in taxes. And who did Barack Obama select to head his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness? GE’s Chief Executive Jeffrey Immelt. It’s better than a fox in a hen house. And you know, now that Congress *and* the President are both in lock-step (or is that goose-step?) with the Corporations it’s only going to get worse. [...]
After making his formal state, Mayor Schoenig, a Republican, asked the voters of the 40th Senate District to vote for Ball’s opponent, County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz. That appeal was greeted by another round of applause. Andrew Vitelli, the editor of The Putnam Examiner, said that Greg Ball had called on Mayor Schoenig to “step down”, and asked for Schoenig’s reaction The mayor laughed said he would not be stepping down, and again the crowd approved. Brewster code enforcement officer charged in illegal immigrant-license scheme
By Marcela Rojas and Rob Ryser • rryser@lohud.com • October 1, 2010
BREWSTER — The village’s code enforcement officer who’s a former Brewster police officer was arrested at his home after illegal immigrants told state police that he sold them New York State driver’s licenses for a high price.
Robert Anthony Serino, 49, was arrested at his home outside Poughkeepsie on six counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Police today said little about the investigation and the scheme Serino was accused of running, except that the probe began several months ago after tips by illegal immigrants.

Man Accused in Cabby Attack Ranted to Police
A 21-year-old film student accused of trying to kill a Muslim cabdriver called himself a “patriot” while in police custody, and accused an officer of allowing “them to blow up buildings in this country.”
A more detailed picture of the mental state of the student, Michael Enright, emerged in jumbled rants he gave to the police after his arrest, statements contained in documents that prosecutors filed during his arraignment on Wednesday in State Supreme Court in Manhattan.
Mr. Enright faces charges of second-degree attempted murder as a hate crime and first-degree assault as a hate crime after he slashed the driver while getting a ride in Midtown last month, according to prosecutors.
When the police apprehended Mr. Enright shortly after 6 p.m. on Aug. 24, at 43rd Street and Third Avenue, he told them that the driver, Ahmed H. Sharif, had attacked him and that he was only trying to defend himself.
“I was in the military,” Mr. Enright told the police, according to the court filing. “I have to go home and see my mother. A friend of mine who works for the M.T.A. is going to help me out. [...]
Non-traditional Cortlandt school moving to Brewster | LoHud.com
A school that offers non-traditional instruction methods is moving to Brewster.
The Longview School is moving from its leased location at 296 Locust Ave., a Methodist church, to 83 Main St. in Brewster, next to the Brewster Public Library. The site was previously a day care center.
Mark Jacobs, the school’s director, said the move would allow an expansion of their educational offerings and a higher enrollment.
“We jumped at it — we thought it was a very exciting,” Jacobs said about the roomier location. The Longview School will be adding staff and students from the nearby Crossroads School in Brewster as part of its relocation.
Longview follows the Sudbury School model, which encourages students themselves to shape their education, rather than follow a pre-determined curriculum. Students are also involved in the administration and organization of the school.
