Putnam Valley Incentive Zoning – from PVRC

Except for Wendy Whetsel, the remaining town board members were silent. There were no pro-incentive zoning residents speaking. Paraphrasing one PVRC member who said after the meeting: “The board did not need any pro-incentive zoning residents to speak because they already have a majority to votes in this law.” [...]

Putnam Valley highway chief is arrested over statement on missing equipment | LoHud.com

PUTNAM VALLEY — Town Highway Superintendent Earl C. Smith has been arrested on two misdemeanor counts in connection with a report he filed on missing town equipment, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said today.

Smith, a three-term elected highway chief who has worked for the town since 1979, was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and making a punishable written false statement, police said. Sheriff’s investigators conferred with the District Attorney’s Office before charging Smith, police said.

In July 2009, Smith, 69, gave a sworn statement to sheriff’s investigators that a tailgate missing from a town truck had been stolen, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. However, Smith knew that the reported theft never happened and that his sworn statement was false, police said.

News That Matters – April 12, 2010

The countdown to Thursday’s Tea Bagger rally in Carmel is well underway as part time Assemblyman and full time demagogue, Greg “Lock and Load” Ball, and his hired gang of outside agitators, bring their obsolete and un-thought out ideas to the steps of the County courthouse. I have a list of scheduled speakers here somewhere but it’s the same old, same old group of “we’ve heard it all before’s”, nothing new to say, no actual solutions, hot air blowing politicians and politician wannabees. And no, they won’t let Jeff Green speak. What’s with that? [...]

News That Matters – January 6, 2010 – The Homeland Security Edition

Home sales are down in the region of late and people have decided to stay to await for either an improvement in the market or genuine property tax relief from the state. What this means is that you’ll be looking at the same drab walls you have been forever. It’s time to spruce things up inside (a good counter to the winter blues!) and bring a reliable painting contractor in. I know one. Do you? Go to http://www.taconicarts.com for more information. Gunfire Ensues After Putnam Valley Accident; Pair Arrested

Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrests of two Putnam Valley residents for their role in a bizarre incident in which a firearm was discharged following a car accident.

On December 28, 2009 at 3:39 p.m., Deputy Sheriffs Robert Detlefs and Bryan Suppa responded to a 911 report of a personal injury automobile accident on Oscawana Heights Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. While enroute, the deputies received a 911 report of three occupants fleeing the scene of the accident on foot. The deputies received an additional 911 broadcast that one of the subjects was at a local residence, was armed with a firearm and that shots had been fired.

Upon arrival, the deputies secured the scene and were successful in locating the driver and occupants involved in the accident. The driver, identified as Clay Bellamy, 45, of 15 Oscawana Heights Road, Putnam Valley was determined to have returned to his residence, retrieved a shotgun and discharged one shot into the air. The deputies recovered the firearm and a spent shell at the scene. Mr. Bellamy was charged with Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Prohibited Use of a Weapon and [...]

“I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.” – Douglas Adams

Good Monday Morning,

My propane company (Burnwell) just delivered 85 gallons of propane and billed me $6.039 per gallon plus a $9.99 “admin fee”. Plus taxes, the total bill was $524.15. The bill says they made the delivery on December 23rd but they left no receipt of any kind, at least non that I saw.

Last summer I asked Burnwell to deliver only when I call for a delivery so I have a call in for them to come and take their latest 85 gallons out of the tank. Being that the tank is 250 gallons and I assume the meter on the truck stops when the tank registers as full, that should leave me 165 gallons which is plenty until I can afford to get more. Does anyone want to take bets on what they’ll do? Does Putnam County have a consumer service division or ombudsman?
