NY State Senator Greg Ball has resigned his seat in order to, as he said, “Put my best efforts towards representing the people of this district in the Congress of the United States.” Addressing a hastily organized press conference just outside the Senate chambers, Mr. Ball said that while his election to the Senate was the defining moment of his life, he felt that he could do a better job for his constituents in Washington and not in Albany and challenged Nan Hayworth on her loyalty to the Republican party and its ideals. [...]
The point is that after Bondi complained about Medicaid he also supported the construction of Senior Housing projects such as the Pulte Homes monstrosity in Carmel, knowing that at some point 25% of the seniors living there will one day need to tap into Medicaid causing the budget to rise accordingly. Well, Carmel now has 300 additional proposed senior housing units on the drawing boards compliments of Paul Camarda. [...]
I’ll bet the “Democrats For Leibell” are a little red-faced this morning and if Greg Ball and Anthony Scannapieco are gloating right now, well, they kinda deserve it. What I want to know is if the Senator knew about this during the campaign. If so, there’s a real problem on top of everything else. [...]
Glen Beck held Whitestock this weekend on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and near 87,000 came out to rock and roll, drop acid and splash naked in the Reflecting Pool and chill in a thai-stick haze under a glorious sun. Now I’m sorry I didn’t go. The sight of 87,000 pudgy, pasty white people all stoned out of their gourds should not have been missed. [...]
My little cousin is now single after an 8 year relationship. Did she call to tell me? No. But I learned about it on Facebook. You’d be surprised at just how much of my family’s life is played out on those pages. For example, my sister “likes” Rush Limbaugh. [...]
Retro Pinball Museum and Arcade Shut Down in Beacon by Order of the City. What Can You Do To Help? [...]
Remember Pinball? Well, it’s illegal in Beacon and that is causing problems (video) for Fred Bobrow, operator of the “Retro Arcade Museum” which sits on Main Street and features pinball games from as early as 1954 up until 1980. For as little as $10 you can play any machine in the place for an hour and for $25 you can play all day. You can even hold private parties at the museum for up to 40 people. See today’s News That Matters for more. [...]
Remember back in the day when Republicans in Congress and ‘baggers across the nation were decrying Obama’s bailout of the auto industry? Yeah. Well, they’re pretty silent these days. Why? It seems that not only have they paid back the money – with interest – but the Big Three are now out of bankruptcy and just yesterday Chrysler announced they will keep a plant open which was slated for closure in 2012 and the industry has added 55,000 jobs overall. [...]
Good Friday Morning,
It’s Memorial Day Weekend, traditionally the first weekend of the summer vacation season, and man, are the gasoline prices showing that! I saw $2.49 last night at the cheap stations and $2.80 at the more expensive ones. Sixty percent of those responding to the poll about gasoline prices thought gas would top out at $4.00 a gallon by July 4th and if the present course continues $4.00 may seem cheap. It’s no wonder fewer Americans than ever are traveling and regions in the nation which depend upon tourism dollars are already hurting.
But people still want to get away and so they’re looking for places closer to home, places that are unique and different but that can be reached on half a tank of gasoline. Putnam County is one such place, especially the towns of Kent and Philipstown who boast more preserved open spaces than any other in the region. Kent alone has almost 10,000 such acres.
More than 20 million people live within two hours drive of here and we’re doing very little to capitalize on that. You’ve been hearing me say this for years and if I ever make it to the town [...]
