I wish there was a way I could genuinely let you know just how appreciated your support has been. It has gotten me through some rough times but more importantly, has provided the other 965 people, those who do not support us but who read every issue, with a reliable source of free information regarding Putnam County, New York. All they have to do is open their email reader or web browser and the information is there three times each week like clockwork. So, not only must I thank you but they should, too. I suppose if they’re reading – and acting on what they read – they appreciate your efforts. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – Wednesday, June 30, 2010

In case you were interested, the county’s portion of the utility bills at Tilly Foster is somewhere around $37,000 and the property tax bill we have to pick up is around $20,000. We also don’t know what the management costs are at the farm (Harold Gary does, maybe,) since as the property owner we’re responsible, as any landlord would be, for repairs on the buildings and management of the grounds. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – Monday, June 7, 2010

If anyone reading in The City has an available apartment, spare bedroom or a comfy couch for me to sleep on from Thursday night (late) June 3rd through Saturday night June 5th, please let me know. Downtown is preferable but almost anywhere within the city Subway system will work just fine. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – Friday, May 28, 2010 – Things To Do Edition

In the meantime, the Ballster’s State Senate campaign website claims he’s a champion of woman’s rights. I’m assuming he means the right to remain barefoot, the right to remain pregnant and the right to remain in the kitchen, but not the right to be barefoot and pregnant and milking goats in the barn. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – Monday, May 17, 2010

Weather for this weekend is a mixed bag. Nice today, a little rain possible for tomorrow morning and Sunday will be cool, cloudy and windy. But hey, that’s spring! So, what to do? Get on the outside of things anyway. Take a hike. Work in the garden. Read the Sunday NY Times in a sheltered spot and don’t come in until you’re done. In any other words: stay away from anything with a cathode ray tube. Everyone knows that watching television on weekends is the leading cause of brain tumors, blindness, halitosis and hemorrhoids. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – May 7, 2010 – Things To Do Edition

Since 2001 there have been 858 fires and explosions, 69 deaths and 1349 injuries on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico – alone. Millions of gallons of oil have been spilled making the Gulf one of the most polluted seas on the planet and yet, Republicans are still pushing for more drilling and exploration along US coasts. Can you believe that? Why not spend that time and effort on conservation and alternative energy? Haven’t we done enough damage to our environment with oil and coal? . . . → Read More: News That Matters – May 5, 2010

I thought the numbers posted here were a little off the mark and so I did my homework. In 2006, the Ballster pulled 55% of the vote, not 71% as the PSD poster claims. And for the 2008 race against John Degnan he scored 61% of the vote not 75% as was quoted. I would have left a comment on the blog correcting the poster but, as you could guess, the comments section was closed and there’s no contact information available. Now, isn’t that just like him and his peeps? . . . → Read More: News That Matters – April 28, 2010
