The truth is entirely opposite what Beck says. The young people who gathered on Utoya did so as champions of ideals that inspired young Americans a century ago, that inspired those who opposed Hitler seven decades ago and that inspire those who challenge the bigotry and violence of modern-day neo-Nazis, fascists and extreme-right fanatics.

After years of protest, hard work, sponsor boycotts and the like, Glenn Beck’s ratings are no longer as high as an elephant’s eye, and the elephant is a little ashamed at the connection. It’s gotten so bad that even Putnam’s own right-wing media demagogue, Roger Ailes, is happy to see the Beckster make a rapid departure from the scene – but with a caveat. [...]
Where’s Nan? [Second Edition] Since the end of last year all we’ve been hearing from the newly elected Congress is noise about this, about that, about that other thing. But the words they’ve studiously not uttered are, “jobs”, “economic recovery”, “lower taxes” and “smaller government”. Yes, it’s true. And for proof all we need do is look at the bills sponsored (none) or co-sponsored by our new rep, Nan Hayworth. It’s fair to ask Ms Hayworth which of those bills creates jobs, lowers overall tax rates, evens out the inequity between the rich and working classes, makes government smaller and less intrusive or encourages the growth of new industries and fair trade practices? That’s right, not a single one. [...]
A very lucky 16 year-old from Kent is at the center of a brouhaha over his ongoing consensual sexual relationship with a 23 year old Brewster woman who has been charged with statutory rape. Being 16 he’s not legally capable of consenting to having sex even though his hormones certainly are. The woman should have waited until his 17th birthday when all-on-a-sudden the state determines he is old enough. It’s funny though, had this boy murdered or violently assaulted someone the law would say he was legally old enough to stand trial as an adult. [...]
Today Glenn Beck went where many of his critics thought he inevitably would by comparing President Obama to the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Beck made the comparison on Fox & Friends, the same program where he made his infamous “This guy is, I believe, a racist” comment in regards to Obama. This time around Beck argues Obama, like Mubarak, is exhibiting the “signs of a dictator” (video the left).
In his analogy Beck compares President Obama’s criticism of the Tea Party to Mubarak’s dictatorship in Egypt. Of course, what Beck neglects to mention is that the Tea Party would not even exist in Egypt. Mubarak not only criticized opposition parties, he outlawed them. In the last election Mubarak’s party won over 90% of the seats in their sham parliament. In the United States the Republicans won back the House of Representatives, and they clearly have opposed the President efforts since coming into power. In Egypt it would not at all be uncommon to see critics of Mubarak jailed, tortured, or even killed. In the United States people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are allowed to say anything about President Obama as long as it does not contain an [...]

Watching national Republicans and fans of FOXNews distance themselves from Jared Lee Loughner and his shoot ‘em up take on their brand of politics is absolutely one of the most amusing escapades this nation has seen in a very long time. It’s like the Keystone Kops fighting an invasion of zombies. [...]
The “other side”? There’s another side? There is, only if we continue with the fallacy that two-years of hate speech is not to blame. But if we can agree that it *is* then we’re obligated to name the names of those who are on the airwaves who speak of violence and encourage hate and intolerance and I can tell you, it’s not coming from “Car Talk”.
