It’s Ball (represented by Roger Ailes) vs Leibell (represented by Don Hall) in Putnam County’s (NY) newspaper wars. Who do we think will win? The slick, monied, opportunistic anti-gay, pro-goat, pro-hydrofracking State Senator backed by one… [...] There’s a Democrat, Alan Schneider of Kent, in the race but I know nothing about him other than that he has deep pockets, deep enough to take out ads in the Leibell Times touting his community involvement over the years. That’s probably enough since hi… [...] “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally … [...] Friday, June 24, 2011 “The New York State Vegetable is the Senator from the 40th district.” Good Friday Evening, Well, it’s done. The NY State Senate voted 33-29 to allow full civil rights for gays and lesbians, a tally which includes… [...] As of this morning, and after complaining to news media that if he votes in favor his father will never speak to him again, the SWSNBN is still a little loose. In a NY Post article this morning he said, “I’m glad that we have some religious carve-outs … [...] An ad hoc, multi-denominational group of religious leaders from northern Westchester and Putnam have come together to urge state Sen. Greg Ball, R-Carmel, to support the Marriage Equality Bill, which would legalize same-sex marriage in New York. Marriage has a particular meaning for us as clergy. The performing of marriage ceremonies is one of the most important facets of our work as ministers and rabbis. We take this work extremely seriously and are grateful to have “the power vested in us” by the state of New York as we bring couples together in marriage through our civil and religious laws. The pending measure, for the first time, would give loving and committed same-sex couples the same right to marry that other couples have enjoyed. Our faith traditions teach us that all people are children of God, deserving of love, dignity and equal treatment. Gay and lesbian Americans pay the same taxes, follow the same laws and should have access to the same civil marriage licenses. Two people who are in a committed, loving relationship should be able to protect each other with basic legal rights and safeguards. When same-sex couples are treated as less than anyone else, it is [...] New York State Senator Doing What He Can To Sabotage Marriage Equality 06/06/11-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire This is not a surprise. In fact, it should not be a surprise at all that one New York Republican is busy doing his best to derail same-sex marriage in that state with the usual run of stall tactics that show that he is very much out of touch with the people of New York. Ostensibly, State Senator Greg Ball is undecided, but that does not seem to really be the case. He seems to actually be against it entirely. He just does not want to say so. Ball pitched this weekend a push for civil unions followed by a voter referendum on the issue of marriage equality. At a time when it is being shown that LGBT youth engage in risky behavior precisely because of the exclusion of their futures from what people like Ball enjoy, he wants to shove marriage back as far as possible and take up the marriage destroying institution of civil unions. Ball said “I believe we could immediately pass the most comprehensive civil-union bill in the country and at the same time find a way to constitutionally [...] |

If you were thinking of re-electing state Senator Greg Ball, 40th District, to a second term next fall, think again.
Rumored to be something of a bully behind closed doors, the Republican state senator’s office clearly followed his lead over the past week when it tried to push around a South Salem resident following some questionable practices the office employed in handling her letter that praised the senator for helping her daughter.
The Ledger, and other news organizations, were sent a letter supposedly from Robyn Fields for print that heaped praise on the senator. After it was published, Ms. Fields and her husband, Robert, were understandably appalled to see such personal medical information about their daughter in print. It was then that The Ledger discovered the senator’s office created an e-mail account in Ms. Fields’ name from which to send the letter to newspapers to make it appear legitimate. Making matters worse for Sen. Ball’s office, the Fieldses adamantly and repeatedly denied ever giving permission for the senator to have the letter sent to the press.
Soon after, Sen. Ball and two of his staffers called and apologized to the [...]
