No Country For Sane Men – Some Things I Have Noticed

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally … [...]

Back in the day when we were kids and you had your lunch money stolen you’d run home and tell your mom who would call the other kid’s mom who would say, “My son would never do such a thing!” Then she’d smack the crap out of him, not necessarily for the alleged crime but for dragging her in to it. If the offenders parent had a conscience they’d show up at your front door, kid in tow, to offer an apology. Usually that was the end of it. [...]

News That Matters – Friday, February 25, 2011 – Things To Do Edition

So, Arise ye workers from your slumber! Let’s get something going that’s going to bring us a brighter future of being secure in our homes, our jobs and our health. A future that sees community before person, the common welfare before corporate welfare and one we will be proud to hand to the next generation knowing we’ve done what we could to ensure their success and not the success of the Paul Camarda’s of the world. [...]

The Putnam County legislature is still trying to extend the extra sales tax rate since they’re too afraid to cut spending as if Legislators might actually face opposition in their elections. The Eldridge/Tamagna administration claims that the extra taxes are paid by people from outside Putnam County but I cannot imagine someone from Yorktown driving to Carmel to shop at Hannaford’s. Maybe that’s just me. Keep an eye on Eldridge and Tamagna and your pocket: they’ve got long, itching fingers. Tax And Spend Republicans. Ya gotta love it! [...]

News That Matters – Friday, January 28, 2011 – Things To Do Edition

Easter is right around the corner and the family is coming over, as they usually do, and you know as well as I do that your dining room, guest room and living rooms aren’t exactly as nifty as they could be. Not that anyone in the family will mind, they’re family after all, and will not mention the faded walls, cracks and dents and dinks left over from last year. But you know your cousin Sheila will mention it in a facebook post… Contact Taconicarts today for an estimate on getting that cleaned up and shutting Sheila up for good. Just imagine! [...]

The Joint Chiefs of Staff have looked over the history of integrating both Blacks and then women into the armed forces with an eye on a method of doing the same with gay men and women. Since you cannot tell if someone you’re serving with is gay or lesbian they’ve decided that gay troops should wear pink triangles. [...]
