Little Buck Pond to use Chemical Pesticides

Spring Lake Homeowners Association Inc C/O Cory Henkel 166 Bank St Apt 1E New York, NY 10014

Facility:

Spring Lake (Little Buck Pond) Gipsey Trail Rd Carmel, NY 10512

Application ID:

3-3722-00113/00016

Permit(s) Applied for:

Article 15 Title 3 Aquatic Pesticides Article 24 Freshwater Wetlands

Project is Located:

Kent, Putnam County

Project Description:

To maintain open water areas for recreational use, the applicant proposes to treat a total of 9.2 acres of Spring Lake (A.K.A. Little Buck Pond – Class B), approximately .4 acre of which is located within NYS Freshwater Wetland LC-4 (Class 2) and its 100 foot adjacent area, with the aquatic pesticides Aquathol K (active ingredient Endothall) and Clearcast (active ingredient Imazamox). The proposed treatment within the NYS Wetland and 100 foot adjacent area is intended to maintain boating access between the open water portion of Spring Lake and the portion of the lake consisting of regulated DEC wetland. The target vegetation includes largeleaf pondweed and waterlilies. The applicant proposes to manipulate the outlet control structure of Spring Lake to hold the chemically treated water within Spring Lake for 14 days, thereby avoiding the need for down-stream water use restrictions.

News That Matters – April 21, 2010

Peekskill Hollow is a large crack in the earth running generally southwest to northeast and connects Kent Cliffs with the heart of Putnam Valley at Oscawana Corners passing through communities of Tompkins Corners, Adams Corners and others along the way. And though this “cow path” has seen suburbanization over the years the history of our place is still widely evident in the old homes, farmsteads and barns that line the way. [...]

News That Matters – April 12, 2010

The countdown to Thursday’s Tea Bagger rally in Carmel is well underway as part time Assemblyman and full time demagogue, Greg “Lock and Load” Ball, and his hired gang of outside agitators, bring their obsolete and un-thought out ideas to the steps of the County courthouse. I have a list of scheduled speakers here somewhere but it’s the same old, same old group of “we’ve heard it all before’s”, nothing new to say, no actual solutions, hot air blowing politicians and politician wannabees. And no, they won’t let Jeff Green speak. What’s with that? [...]

Good Friday Morning,

It was 34.3° here this morning and I could hear the jade plant and the orchids shivering outside. There is a call for rain later this afternoon and evening. Tomorrow is supposed to be windy and rainy for most of the day but you should still get outside. Along with the events listed below (and the many that I don’t even know about), if the weather does keep you in I still want you to get outside! To help with that, PBS has made their new series by Ken Burns on our National Parks available for free viewing at their website here. Use a fast ‘net connect.

Using the economic downturn as an excuse, the NYSDEC [...]

Are you a musician? Do you have a small country-like acoustic group? Putnam County is looking for you! The county needs a band to play at the County Farm Tour this weekend on October 4th. The event this year will be held at Mike Beal’s Willow Ridge Farm on Canopus Hollow Road in Putnam Valley. You won’t get paid but you can sell your wares and you’ll be the only band so you’ll have no competition. Give George Michaud a call (845) 225-3641 x49310 and tell him Jeff sent you. [...]

News That Matters – September 14, 2009

Peter Collins and Maureen Fleming have a few things in common. For one, they’re both qualified attorneys with long standing practices. For another, they’re both running for Town Justice in the Town of Kent in primaries for the Democratic, Independence and Working Families party lines. While a few misanthropic Republican candidates have gone negative even before the primary, others (we do not know their party affiliations) are going negative on Collins and Fleming. In the former case it’s a letter to the Courier about mythical and magical situations which never transpired and passed on as facts and a widely mailed attack piece on Judge Collins. In the latter case, it’s missing and damaged campaign signs. Some cut in half. Others destroyed. Some missing entirely. [...]

“He had discovered a great law of human action, without knowing it – namely, that in order to make a man or a boy covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to obtain.” – Mark Twain

Good Wednesday Morning,

The Kent Manor Saga continues on August 13th, so says Judge O’Rourke. Not citing any reasons and warning everyone not to talk about it, the case has been reschedule until then. Shhhhh! Someone might just answer the question; how come for all those years the county didn’t foreclose on that property? I know, I know, I keep asking the same thing over and again. Yet still, no one has an answer. If you want to know what’s really going on with Kent Manor, answer that question. Last week I wrote about a volunteer at the 4H Fair who said he wouldn’t ride his bicycle in Mahopac because it was too dangerous. A day later a bicyclist was hit by a car in that fair burg nearly 5 years to the day after he was first struck by a car near Buckshollow Road and Route 6. Yesterday, the news reported that an Asheville, NC firefighter [...]
