Well now, Patterson Crossing is back in the news, at least if you were at the Planning Board meeting in Kent last evening. Whew. I’m happy I’m not Insite Engineering or Paul Camarda right about now! It’s no longer an issue of crossing t’s and dotting i’s at this point, it’s about stormwater and the plan lacks in specifics about that and the essential factors now lie with the DEP who has never seen a shopping mall in the Croton basin they didn’t love. Remember when DEP said, “no new impervious surfaces”? I do. Apparently, they’ve forgotten. [...]
Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government affairs at the Financial Services Roundtable complained about the President’s new rules for corporations that feed at the public trough. He says that $500,000 isn’t a lot of money for a Wall Street Executive and that pay scales there are different than they are elsewhere and finally, that Wall Street will have a tough time finding people to take these jobs in the future. What he’s really saying is that Wall Street got hit square in the face with a dose of reality and they doesn’t like it one bit. [...]
Since early yesterday morning there were over two-hundred visits to the pages about the Tilly Foster lease agreement at the NtM blog site. That’s pretty impressive and it means you care. Now it’s up to the Legislature to listen and amend the agreement. It’s not like your concerns are all over the place, they just focus in on a few items not addressed in this latest proposal. Does anyone want to bet on what the Legislature will do on Thursday when they vote on this? Take the poll! [...]
What do you think the Legislature will do on Thursday evening about the Tilly Foster Lease Agreement? Take the poll! [...]

Good Monday Morning,
The Town of Kent has an opening on its Stormwater Management Committee. The committee is involved in public outreach and education and will be focusing on that during 2009. If you have any background in that field or if you have a deep, passionate interest in the matter and can devote adequate time to the public service work of the committee, please send your resume to Town Hall for consideration.
We’re still talking about the Tilly Foster Lease Agreement as the Legislature has schedule their *final* meeting on the matter this Thursday evening at the Emergency Services building at the Donald Smith campus in Carmel. The Physical Services committee will meet first to pass the lease onto the full Legislature and then they will vote to accept it immediately after. I’ve collated a bunch of information, the latest version of the lease, and comments others have made about it at the blog site here. It is worth checking out for you should know what we’re getting ourselves into.
The biggest debate in [...]

Here’s the county’s latest effort on the Tilly Foster Lease agreement. I think you’ll find that all the fighting, all the letters, phone calls and emails were worth it. While it’s still not as good as it could be, it’s a damn sight better than it was. The county Law Department is finallyacting like a Law Department. Tilly Foster Lease Proposal Comments? [...]
Tomorrow is our weekly Things To Do Edition. If you or your organization has something going on you’d like announced, please make sure it’s in by this afternoon or, post it all by yourself at the blog site. [...]
Good Friday Morning,
I’m sorry this column is late today but I’ve spent the morning unpacking my pony, my suits and pictures of the pets. It turns out I’m not going to Washington DC after all, that Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand is, instead. For those of you who read this column you know I’ve always said she’s right for the job and the Governor has made the correct choice and I wish her well. I believe we will be well served.
Tilly Foster All Over Again
Sadly, I need to start this portion of the column with a caveat I want you all to carefully read and understand:
There is a belief out there that those of us who take issue with the contract want the deal to fail. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I’m dismayed with County Legislators who claim otherwise.
I cannot identify a single person who does not want to see Tilly Foster reach its full potential as a valued resource for our county and the region.
I cannot think of anyone who has a desire to ‘go back’ to the olden days when the farm was a collection of under-used buildings.
I [...]
Good evening,
Yes, I know it’s late but this was important enough to write this up while it’s still fresh in my mind.
This evening’s meeting of the Physical Services Committee was quite the doozy! There was more than an hour of questions and discussion on the contract for the future management of the Tilly Foster Farm in Southeast.
While most of those in favor of the current contract were in favor for emotional reasons, and accused those who demanded accountability as being against The Farm, in the end, level heads prevailed and the committee failed to move the contract to the full Legislature in time for their February 3rd meeting. What this means is that we now have time to evaluate the contract more fully, send our recommendations to the County Executive and the Legislature so that, in the end, the contract for the management of the Farm will be a solid legal document.
It was quite a fight getting a copy of the latest proposed contract from the Law department. Jennifer Bumgarner didn’t even return my phone calls seeking a copy but upon complaints form the public the Legislature provided copies after the meeting began last night. [...]
