News That Matters – May 7, 2010 – Things To Do Edition

Weather for this weekend is a mixed bag. Nice today, a little rain possible for tomorrow morning and Sunday will be cool, cloudy and windy. But hey, that’s spring! So, what to do? Get on the outside of things anyway. Take a hike. Work in the garden. Read the Sunday NY Times in a sheltered spot and don’t come in until you’re done. In any other words: stay away from anything with a cathode ray tube. Everyone knows that watching television on weekends is the leading cause of brain tumors, blindness, halitosis and hemorrhoids. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – May 7, 2010 – Things To Do Edition

News That Matters – April 23, 2010 – Things To Do Edition

I hope everyone had a nice Earth Day. I spent mine trying to figure out how I’m going to pay the County for the simple right to work. Can you believe that? You’ve read it here before (see this link) but it’s worth repeating: In order for blue collar workers to work in Putnam County we have to pay (yes, you read that right, PAY) the county $250 every two year for the privilege and for that we get nothing in return. Those dollars go to the Consumer Affairs Division where, after expenses, our $250′s raked in more than $170,000 in profit for the county above and beyond the cost of running the Consumer Affairs Division. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – April 23, 2010 – Things To Do Edition

News That Matters – April 21, 2010

Peekskill Hollow is a large crack in the earth running generally southwest to northeast and connects Kent Cliffs with the heart of Putnam Valley at Oscawana Corners passing through communities of Tompkins Corners, Adams Corners and others along the way. And though this “cow path” has seen suburbanization over the years the history of our place is still widely evident in the old homes, farmsteads and barns that line the way. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – April 21, 2010

Okay, it’s more than a week since I’ve switched over to the GOP and I feel great! And to celebrate this weekend I’m gonna get me a martini, a gun, put on a Pat Boone album and don my best polyester Leisure suit. . . . → Read More: News That Matters – April 9, 2010 – Things To Do Edition

News That Matters – November 23,2009

Wednesday’s News That Matters will combine news and events for next weekend so if you’ve got something going on you want your fellow readers to know about please get it in pretty quick. I can’t post on Friday as it’s the traditional MAD DASH TO THE MALL DAY and I aim to be sitting in traffic, burning fossil fuels, contributing my share of greenhouse gases to global warming while waiting my turn to see Santa and give him my wish list and rudely jostle millions of fellow mall-goers forcing my way past them for that sale at Banana Republic. Honestly, how the heck are the reindeer going to fare after the ice melts? . . . → Read More: News That Matters – November 23,2009

The Dumbwaiter – Today at Arts on the Lake

Let’s be honest: it’s a crappy day. You could stay at home and veg, bemoaning the weather and watch re-runs of F Troop and I Love Lucy or you could go to the mall and run up your credit card debt or you could finally get to cleaning out the basement. So, since those options are not really options, get your butts off the couch and get yourselves to the old firehouse on Route 52 (just south of the Route 311 causeway) and see some live theater. . . . → Read More: The Dumbwaiter – Today at Arts on the Lake
