"Your hard work and dedication to the county is impressive. Thank you for taking on this leadership role in our community." Jeremy Giordano

Two generations of decentralized growth have drastically increased the Region’s urban land—by 60% in 30 years despite only a 13% increase in population while draining people and jobs out of the Region’s cities. This development pattern threatens both large areas of open land and critical environmental resources at the Region’s outer edge as well as the vitality of our cities and mature suburbs. - Regional Plan Association

"...the number one fiscal tool a municipality could implement to keep taxes down was to protect open space." - Robert McKeon, chair of the Red Hook Agriculture and Open Space Advisory Committee

Folks, Here's some numbers for ya:

There are some 3,450 pages of information at the PlanPutnam website. This is how many people visited the website over the past few months:

Oct 2007 7,577
Sep 2007 7,805
Aug 2007 8,307
Jul 2007 8,748
Jun 2007 7,782
May 2007 7,190
Apr 2007 4,904
Mar 2007 6,663
Feb 2007 4,296
Jan 2007 3,696
Dec 2006 3,156

That's more than 70,000. That's not "hits", (of which there were more than 546,000 which counts each item called files, headers, images and whatnot), that's individuals who viewed 115,000 pages collectively and moved more than 8 gigabyte worth of data across the Internet.

Other than the home page, the most active pages at PlanPutnam are those as part of the Outdoor Recreation Guide which have been viewed more than 18,000 times this past year, the combined News Feeds, the Archives, and the Local Events Calendar pages.

PlanPutnam was published on more than 360 days over the past year.

  • Since March (when we moved to Google Groups) there have been almost 1,900 stories, articles, editorials and replies to and from readers posted to the list.
  • More than 200 of those have not been from me!
  • Major developers driven to drink due to our being here? At least 3.
  • Politicians driven insane due to our being here? Dozens.
  • Bad development projects stopped, reconsidered or made better? Dozens More.

On average I spend about 2 hours each day producing PlanPutnam which totals out at about 720 hours in a year.

At a market rate of $25 an hour, that comes to $18,000 of my time donated to our community which amounts to only $40 for each subscribed reader. Imagine where this county would be if each of you donated $100 to the cause.

The amount of property tax additions saved since we've become an active and educated community? Million$.
